My Granddaughter SOWMYA

My Granddaughter, SOWMYA

On 17 May 2006 at 17.05 hours, my granddaughter came into this world and to my world. How I was dreaming about this little bundle of joy ! For the past five and half years the only prayer on my lip was 'God, give me a granddaughter' and He was all compassionate to have answered my prayers - and how ! Such a darling child. She weighed 3 kg at birth and cute-looking (See photo, you too will agree).

A newborn is a marvel to look at - God's wonderful marvel. The newborn is the definition of what the most advanced Hindu-spiritualists would preach - "leave everything to Him and He will look after you". It just sleeps and sleeps. Whenever it gets hungry, it announces its hunger on a shrill cry. The new mother takes the child in her arms and starts feeding. As it takes a mouthful or two of milk, the child becomes yet again sleepy and goes to sleep. The cycle continues. No worries at all for the newborn as it sleeps on with the inherent knowledge that there is someone nearby always 24 hours a day to take care of her. What a heavenly feeling !

Even though the newborn may not do anything at this stage, mere watching it sleep takes you to another world, a world where there is bliss and only bliss. And those moments when she is awake and with those lovely big eyes open she takes a regal view of the surroundings ! Words can't describe those moments. From a 2-year old to 80-year old everyone wants to take that little bundle of happiness in his/her arms - when I took my granddaughter in my arms for the first time, oh, I can't describe my feelings - only a Bharatiyar can do justice.

Thank you God.
